Snoddy angling for assist bonus

Off day: Snoddy almost lets Gloucester's Alex Sykes' free kick squirm in

Chris Snoddy believes he is in line for an assist bonus after his inconsistent kicking helped Chippenham Town rout Gloucester City.

The Bluebirds stopper accidentally set Sean Seavill up for the hosts' third in the 4-1 win after intending to kick the ball out because Kevin Halliday was injured.

He also played a big part in Chippenham's fourth as his punt found Seavill racing clear for the striker to tee up Luke Gullick for an emphatic finish.

"I saw Sean running and picked him out," joked the 22-year-old Snoddy.

"No, I went to kick it out and just fluffed it, like all my kicks went. This time I got lucky and I dropped to Sean.

"I don't get an assist bonus so I may have to negotiate it for next season.

"My kicking was rubbish in the first half, the wind was terrible and then in the second it didn't really improve, but I set up two of the goals."

But Snoddy was ultimately disappointed with his overall performance.

He added: "Personally, you always have a bad day at the office. On Friday, against Merthyr I definitely did and then it carried on during Monday's game.

"But in the second half I kept us in it with one save and obviously Sean and Luke did the rest."

The win gained revenge for the 3-0 defeat by Gloucester on New Year's Day and Snoddy felt it was important to put it to rest.

He said: "It was in the lads' minds. I had such a rubbish game that day and the team played badly.

"We wanted to rectify it but it is getting so tight at the top that we need to get all the points we can.

"We need to win every game. Teams around us are dropping points and others are picking them up.

"We just need to win our games and see what happens."
