Car thefts on the increase

POLICE have said that car thefts in Chippenham have increased over the last few weeks.

In recent weeks ten vehicles have been stolen and 17 have been broken into and items inside stolen.

Cars being targeted seem to be older models with the registration number prefix letters L and R.

As these older models are less likely to be fitted with security devices it makes them easier for thieves to break into.

Chippenham sergeant Martin Alvis said: "We are aware of a number of crimes relating to theft from motor vehicles of a particular age group.

"Neighbourhood policing teams in conjunction with other departments within Wiltshire police are currently investigating these crimes and have in place certain preventative measures.

"Some suspects have been arrested and enquiries are ongoing at this time."

L and R registrations? Maybe it saves buying the international sticker for Latvia or Russia when they send them home.

RO is Romania, RUS is Russia.

L and R are a quite a few years apart though. Did we fit alarms to M,N and P, before complacency set in?

Older terrace type housing was built for people, who at the time generally didn't have cars. Hence, I'm afraid the road is all you have! Blame the thieving scum who rob the cars, not the council!
